About this coloring page

A long banquet table is set with food, candles, and fine dishes. At the head of the table, a king sits with an empty seat beside him. Servants are rushing in from the doorway, bringing in guests from the streets — a beggar, a farmer, an elderly woman, a child — all looking surprised and a little overwhelmed to be there. Some of the original guests are visible in the background, turning away. The hall is grand but welcoming, and the contrast between the ornate table and the ordinary guests gives the page a kind of upside-down beauty.

Suggested Scripture: Luke 14:23 (NIV) — Then the master told his servant, "Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full."

The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Teaching ideas for parents and teachers

  • Before coloring, ask kids who the original guests were and why they didn't come. Then ask who ended up at the table.
  • For ages 5–7: keep it simple. The king had a big party and invited people. They said no. So he invited everyone else. God's invitation is open to everyone.
  • For Sunday school: focus on the surprise guests — the poor, the crippled, the blind, the lame. Ask, "What does it tell you about God's kingdom that these are the ones who made it in?"
  • For family devotion: read Luke 14:15–24. Ask, "What's one invitation from God that our family has been slow to accept?"

Print and activity tips

  • Color the banquet table in rich, warm tones — gold candles, deep red tablecloth, colorful dishes.
  • Color the surprise guests in simple, worn tones — they weren't dressed for a party, and that's the point.
  • Use bright light from inside the hall to contrast with the darker doorway; the invitation is always moving from dark to light.

Discussion questions

  • The original guests had good excuses — a field, oxen, a new wife. Why weren't they good enough?
  • The king filled his hall with people who had nothing to offer. What does that tell you about how God sees worth?
  • Have you ever felt like an unlikely guest at God's table?
  • What's one invitation from God you've been putting off accepting?
  • The hall was full in the end. What does that tell you about whether God's plans succeed?
