Create My Child's PageAbout this coloring page
Jesus walks across the surface of a dark, windswept lake. His robe moves in the wind, and His posture is steady and calm. In the distance, a small boat with the disciples is visible, and one figure — Peter — is stepping out of the boat toward Jesus. The water around Jesus' feet shows ripples but no sinking. The night sky is dark with a few stars, and the wind is clearly blowing. This page captures one of the most dramatic miracle scenes in the Gospels. The dark water, the distant boat, Peter's first step, and Jesus' calm posture give kids a visually rich page with a lot of emotional tension.
Suggested Scripture: Matthew 14:29 (NIV) — "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Create a personalized Jesus coloring pageTeaching ideas for parents and teachers
- Before coloring, ask kids what they would have done if they were Peter — would they have gotten out of the boat? Most will say no, which is honest.
- For ages 5–7: keep it simple. Jesus walked on water. Peter tried to walk on water too — and for a moment, he did! He only sank when he stopped looking at Jesus.
- For Sunday school: focus on Peter's courage before his fear. He's the only one who got out of the boat. Ask, "Is it better to try and sink, or to stay safe in the boat?"
- For family devotion: read Matthew 14:22–33. Ask, "What's one 'boat' our family is sitting in right now, when Jesus might be asking us to step out?"
Print and activity tips
- Color the water in deep, dark blues and blacks — it should feel like night and feel deep.
- Keep Jesus' robe in white or pale tones so He stands out against the dark water.
- Color Peter slightly warmer than the water around him — he's the bridge between the boat and Jesus.
Discussion questions
- Peter was the only one who got out of the boat. What does that tell you about him?
- Peter sank when he looked at the wind instead of at Jesus. What do you look at when you're afraid?
- Jesus caught Peter immediately when he started to sink. What does that tell you about how fast Jesus responds?
- Have you ever stepped out in faith and started to sink? What happened?
- The disciples worshiped Jesus after this. What does it take for you to move from fear to worship?
