Create My Child's PageAbout this coloring page
Jesus stands waist-deep in the Jordan River while John the Baptist pours water over His head. The water ripples around them, and a few reeds grow along the riverbank. Above, the sky is open with a soft beam of light coming down. On the shore, a few people watch quietly. This page captures the beginning of Jesus' public ministry. The water textures, the light beam, the reeds, and the varied poses of Jesus and John give kids varied work while the moment stays reverent and clear.
Suggested Scripture: Matthew 3:16 (NIV) — As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Create a personalized Jesus coloring pageTeaching ideas for parents and teachers
- Before coloring, ask kids why Jesus was baptized if He didn't have sin. Most won't know — explain it was about identifying with us, not about needing forgiveness.
- For ages 5–7: keep it simple. Jesus was baptized to show us how to follow God. It was the start of His big work.
- For Sunday school: focus on the Trinity moment — Jesus in the water, the Spirit like a dove, the Father's voice from heaven. Ask, "What does it tell you about God that all three showed up at once?"
- For family devotion: read Matthew 3:13–17. Ask, "What's one way our family could 'start fresh' with God this year?"
Print and activity tips
- Color the water in layered blues and greens — darker where it's deeper, lighter near the surface.
- Use a soft yellow beam for the light from heaven; press lightly so it feels like real light.
- Add reeds along the bank in greens and browns; they frame the scene naturally.
Discussion questions
- Jesus didn't need to be baptized. So why did He do it?
- The sky opened up when Jesus came out of the water. What does that tell you about what happens when we follow God?
- John said he wasn't worthy to untie Jesus' sandals. But Jesus let John baptize Him. What does that say about humility?
- Have you ever been baptized? If yes, what do you remember? If no, what questions do you have about it?
- The Father said, "This is my Son, whom I love." What would it feel like to hear that about yourself?
