About this coloring page

Daniel kneels in the middle of a stone pit with his hands folded and his eyes closed, while four large lions sit and lie around him — none of them attacking, all of them strangely calm. One lion rests its head on its paws right next to Daniel. Above the pit, you can see the edge of the stone covering and a small slice of moonlight coming through. The mood of the page is quiet, not chaotic, which is unusual for this story and makes it especially good for kids who think the lion's den must have been loud and scary the whole time. Lots of mane detail keeps the lions interesting to color.

Suggested Scripture: Daniel 6:22 (NIV) — My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight.

The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Teaching ideas for parents and teachers

  • Before coloring, ask kids to look at the lions' faces. Do they look hungry? Angry? Sleepy? It's a great way to start the conversation about what God did that night.
  • For ages 5–7: act out Daniel's prayer position together before they color. Sometimes feeling the posture helps the story stick.
  • For Sunday school: focus on the part most kids skip — Daniel kept praying three times a day even after he knew the law would get him killed. Ask, "What does that say about his prayer life before the lions?"
  • For family devotion: read Daniel 6 together, then have everyone share one thing they pray about regularly, even when it's not urgent.

Print and activity tips

  • Color the lions in warm browns and golds, then leave the air around Daniel slightly lighter — it suggests the angel's presence without drawing it in.
  • Add tiny stars or a moon at the top of the pit to remind kids this happened overnight.
  • After coloring, ask kids to write one prayer on the back of the page that they want to keep saying even when no one's listening.

Discussion questions

  • Why do you think the lions didn't eat Daniel?
  • Daniel could have prayed quietly with the windows closed and stayed safe. Why do you think he kept his windows open?
  • Have you ever had to do something good in front of people who didn't like it?
  • What do you think Daniel said to the king the next morning when he was pulled out of the pit?
  • If God had let the lions hurt Daniel, would the story still be true that God is good? This one's hard — talk about it together.
